NHS Manchester, your local primary care trust, is responsible for commissioning local health services.  We work with patients, the public, doctors, nurses, GPs, other health professionals and organisations such as Manchester City Council to plan, design and fund the care local people receive in hospitals, GP practices, health centres, dentists, pharmacists and other health venues.

We do this by:

  • understanding the needs of local communities;
  • developing plans and designing services to meet the current and future needs of residents;
  • contracting with organisations to provide services; and
  • monitoring the quality and efficiency of services to make sure you receive the best services possible.

A crucial part of our role is to listen to patients, members of the public and communities and use this information to guide and inform the work that we do.  We do this in a variety of ways depending on the people or communities we are seeking to hear from.

If you would like to learn more about our public engagement activity, or would like to contribute to any of the work we are currently undertaking, please go to our Talking Health website or email us at talkinghealth@manchester.nhs.uk.

Each year we produce a report highlighting the consultation and public engagement activity carried out over the previous 12 months.  The aim of this is to ensure that local people are aware of work we have done, can identify how their input has influenced our decision making, and can scrutinise and comment on the way we carry out engagement activity.  Below are links to the 2 reports we have published so far:

Report of consultation activity 2009/10

Report of consultation activity 2011/12

One of the ways we engage with the public is through Twitter.  To follow us, go to @NHSManchester.
