Dentists

For routine checks and planned courses of treatment on the NHS, contact your usual dental practice or find one willing to accept you under NHS arrangements.  Details of local dental practices are available: Find your nearest - Dentist.

Children under 18, people over the age of 65 on income related benefits and certain other groups receive free NHS dental treatment.  For adults who have to pay for NHS dental care, there are now only three pay bands for treatment - you are charged for a course of treatment rather than for each item of treatment.

Call 0161 230 6011 if you have an urgent problem.

Taking care of teeth and gums
By looking after your mouth, you can prevent tooth decay and gum disease and your teeth should last for life.  The following advice is based on scientific research and backed by the British Dental Association and all UK dentists:

  • Clean your teeth and gums thoroughly twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and a soft to medium brush with a small head
  • Cut down on sugary foods and drinks especially between meals
  • See your dentist at least once a year.  Regular checkups can help to spot problems early including mouth cancer.
