Central Manchester CCG

Background
From Gorton to Chorlton and from Fallowfield to the City Centre, central Manchester is at the heart of this dynamic city. It is an area of rich diversity with different populations living side by side, creating a vibrant local community.

Becoming a Clinical Commissioning Group gives us the opportunity to take over responsibility for planning, arranging and funding local health services; an opportunity we relish. We are dedicated to the principles of the NHS – a universal service, free at the point of use, where the quality and safety of services is of utmost importance. We are determined to work with our local communities and other partners in the city, to improve people’s health and make sure they are able to receive high quality, prompt local services. We will achieve this aim through the decisions we make, the actions we take and the way in which we work.

Central Manchester Clinical Commissioning Group works on behalf of patients registered at any of their 41 practices, and residents of the following council wards:

  • Ardwick
  • Chorlton
  • Fallowfield
  • Gorton North
  • Gorton South
  • Hulme
  • Levenshulme
  • Longsight
  • Moss Side
  • Rusholme
  • Whalley Range

We have a population of 211,000 and growing, 56% of whom are under 30 and 30% of whom come from Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) groups. There are significant levels of deprivation across central Manchester and high numbers of people living with long term conditions.

We have split central Manchester into 4 ‘localities’. This helps us to work better with our GP practices and make sure that the work we do is fully informed by the needs of the diverse communities in this part of the city. We intend to continue to develop this locality model over the next 12 months and beyond.
