High quality, safe and effective services

The Clinical Governance team has a key role in supporting the delivery of the objectives set out in our commissioning strategic plan (CSP).  This plan sets out the vision and priorities NHS Manchester will work towards and identifies ensuring “safe and effective services” as one of the main objectives.

Our objective is to shape the quality of services to better meet the needs of our communities whilst ensuring services are subject to the rigorous checks and balances expected from contracted services.  When we talk about quality we mean patient safety, effectiveness of care and patient experience.  Assuring these three elements of quality for patients will be central to our work with partners in secondary and primary care and elsewhere.

Our intention is to drive up the quality and change the focus of NHS care so that there is greater emphasis on supporting people to lead healthier lives and avoid serious illness where possible.  We aim to support the system reform set out in the CSP to achieve real improvement in our population’s heath.  This contribution to world class commissioning aims to deliver a notable shift in the use of NHS resources towards disease prevention, primary care and community services.  We also will help to spread clinical innovation and to drive up the standards of clinical training and education.

For specific details of the work being done, please refer to the Clinical Governance updates in previous board papers over the last two years.
